FAQ’s – Biology Booster

1. When can my child start?

You can start at any time of the academic year and your child(ren) will make progress.  However, to get the most out of the booster classes we recommend starting at the beginning of the academic year.

2. What year groups are the AS / A Level Biology Booster classes for?

Our Biology Booster classes are year specific classes for students in Key Stage 5 (years 12 or 13).

3. How long are the booster classes?

Our Biology Booster group sessions are 2 hours and 10 minutes long. Students study for a 1 hour lesson, then a 10-minute break followed by a second 1 hour lesson.

4. How many students are there in the booster classes?

In our booster classes, we ensure an average of 8 children per tutor, with a maximum of 9 students to 1 tutor. These classes are specifically designed for children in the same year group, offering highly targeted and focused tutoring.

5. How do you teach?

Our booster classes are designed to compliment all the major examination boards with a particular focus on boards utilized by local sixth form and colleges. There is a significant overlap in content and material required between the different examination boards, especially since the recent changes to the AS / A Level biology specifications.

6. Do you give homework?

Yes, students are given homework on a weekly basis (except for assessment weeks).  All homework is based on what our learners have learnt in the lesson and is designed to reinforce their learning. Ones returned, homework is marked and explained with further examples.

7. How much homework do you give?

Homework will vary on a week by week basis. However, if I pupils would like additional homework, their tutor can make the relevant arrangements within reason.

8. Will I be informed regularly of my child's progress?

AS and A Level students receive a report at the end of every term, this report highlights the work they have covered, progress made, targets going forward and end of term assessment results.  Parents can also request to speak to their child’s biology tutor at the end of the lesson to get a quick update.

9. What qualifications and experience do the tutors have?

All our AS / A Level biology tutors are subject specialists and the vast majority are also qualified teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Our AS / A Level biology tutors have experience delivering exam board specific AS / A Level matrialial.

10. What will they be taught for AS / A Level biology?

We have carefully planned weekly lessons for the whole year. Topics that are taught are all in line with the current exam board specifications for AS / A Level Biology.  A list of topics can be found at the top of this page.

FAQ’s – 1-2-1 Tuition

1. When can my child start?

You can start at any time of the academic year and your child(ren) will make progress.

2. How long are the lessons?

Our lessons are hourly and we recommend no longer than one to two hours weekly per subject for a student studying the same subject at school during the week.

3. How many children are there in the lesson?

There will be one tutor dedicated to one student during all one to one tutoring sessions making them an extremely targeted form of learning support.

4. What will my child(ren) be taught?

Children are taught examination board specific material for their chosen 1-2-1 subject in line with current up to date exam board specifications.  A list of 1-2-1 subjects we offer can be found at the top of this page.

5. How will you teach my child(ren)?

Students learn in various ways whether they it be visual, auditory, reading / writing or kinesthetic. All our tutors are very experienced with teaching using various methods to ensure they understand what is being taught. Tutors give lots of examples whether it be using the whiteboard, discussing verbally or demonstrating practically.

6. Where will my child work?

Children will work in one of the designated one on one suites.

7. Will my child(ren) receive homework?

Yes. 1-2-1 students are given an appropriate amount of homework on a weekly basis.  All homework is based on what a child has learnt in the lesson and is designed to reinforce their learning.

8. Will I be informed regularly of my child(ren)s progress?

Yes, all our children have weekly progress reports which will let you know how they did in their classwork, homework and including work ethic. Tutors and parents can also write comments within the weekly reports which make them a great way of ensuring regular communication between your child(ren)s tutor and yourself.

9. What qualifications and experience do the tutors have?

All our GCSE tutors are subject specialists and the vast majority are also qualified teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Our GCSE tutors have experience delivering exam board specific material for their specialist subject within a school-based setting.

10. Are all staff DBS cleared?

Yes all our staff are DBS cleared.

FAQ’s – 1-2-2 Tuition

1. When can my child start?

You can start at any time of the academic year and your child(ren) will make progress.

2. How long are the lessons?

Our lessons are 1 hour, students can opt for as many hours in a given day / week.

3. How many children are there in the lesson?

There will be one tutor dedicated to two students during all one to two tutoring sessions, making them an extremely targeted form of learning support.

4. What will my child(ren) be taught?

Learners are taught examination board specific material for their chosen 1-2-2 subject in line with current up to date exam board specifications.  A list of 1-2-2 subjects we offer can be found at the top of this page.

5. How will you teach my child(ren)?
